Baby Will

This post is about a month late, but better late than never =)

William Howell Haunson
Our sweet nephew was born on March 15, 2012.
Congratulations Melissa and Trey, he is beautiful! We can't wait to meet him in October!

When big brother Logan met Will he said, "I like it!"

"I look just like my daddy"

And here are the cute onesies I made for the babe!

Maybe someday we'll live close to our nephews. It's weird that I've only been a part of the Harris fam for a little while, I miss them like I miss my own family.

Dear Logan and Will,
We might only get to see you a few times a year, but we love you just as much as if we lived on the East Coast too. We pray for you everyday and we love getting to see sweet pictures of you. It's especially fun to talk to you on Skype! We are proud to be your Uncle & Aunt. You are going to grow up to be pretty amazing young men, since you have such a great example in your daddy and such a great encourager in your mommy. We will be blessed to watch you each grow up and become little boys. Be sweet to your momma, and give your dad extra hugs when he gets home from work at night. Oh, and when you get to visit your auntie and uncle, give us extra snuggles since they have to last a long time, ok?

We love you guys so much! Love, Uncle Zach and Aunt Katie

DIY: Coffee Can Bag Holder

We have some sort of weird obsession with re-using things. It stems from both of our pack rat tendencies and my Seattle roots. We just don't like to throw things away if we feel like they can be used again!

We save paper bags. You know, like from the grocery store and stuff? We use them for little trash can liners, lunch bags, used kitty litter, etc. It's recycling, and it saves us money. Score!

We also love Trader Joe's coffee, and save the cans that it comes in. They're cool and they can hold stuff. Double score.

I got sick of seeing a variety of coffee blends on our shelf holding the plastic bags, so last weekend while it was pouring outside, I got a little crafty! And I would just be rude not to share with y'all. :)

Hope you likey!

Logan's Quilt

If you follow me on twitter or instagram (misskatieh), you saw that I made a quilt last month! I couldn't post to facebook because I wanted it to be a surprise when my sister in law nephew opened it. I went on a total limb picking out fabric without her, which was super scary because I was afraid she wouldn't like it! My SIL is like the sweetest most accepting woman in the world, but for some reason I am afraid she will wake up one morning and decide she doesn't like me anymore. Ha! Anyways, enough about my insecurities.. love you, Melissa.

I knew Logan's "big boy" room had a transportation theme, so I went to fabric.com and picked the cutest coordinating transportation fabric I could find. I proceeded making my quilt and, let me tell you, I fell in love with quilting. When I say that, I feel like I'm a middle aged/old lady but seriously - I love it! Recently I've learned how much I love all things sewing [kindred hearts with Lauren].

Anyways, when Melissa posted pictures on FB of Logan's new room, I was PUMPED because I knew the quilt would fit in perfectly! Here is Logan's room..

Here is the quilt!

trains, planes, and automobiles!

super cute polka dot back.. I love polka dots :)

And here's the Logan-man in his quilt!! Cutest nephew ever? Yup! I can only say that for a few more days :)
I love that kid.

Can't wait to show you what I made baby Will -- as soon as Melissa sees, I'll post it!

PS: Baby Will, if you can read this, we are all waiting for your sweet arrival! Come out and play! I know your mama especially would appreciate that.

I Made Stuff: An Ornament Wreath.. My Way

My floor is covered in glitter (its even stuck in my husband's beard) but this wreath turned out awesome! I made the mistake of glancing at a tutorial before hurrying to get my supplies, and halfway through realized there is a much easier way to make this. But nevermind that, let me show you the more difficult, more time consuming, more OCD inflicting way that I made my wreath!

First, gather a TON of ornaments. If you think you have enough for two wreaths, buy more. Trust me. Everything you'll need:

  • glue gun
  • lots of extra glue sticks
  • foam wreath form
  • ornaments, ornaments, more ornaments
  • a flower if your heart desires (mine did)
  • ribbon
Pretty easy, right? I bought all my ornaments at the 99 cent store, and everything else at Joann's. For 50% off. Score!

Ok so let's get started, why don't we.

the first genius thing I did was pour all my ornaments onto the kitchen floor. so that my floor would be covered in glitter and my kittens could run and slide into them 400 times and hour, clearly.

second, listen to what other people say and spray paint your wreath before glueing ornaments to it. I missed this step and regretted it immensely. it prompted the first bout of OCD to cover all green foam I could possibly find.

other people say you should glue all the ornaments around the outside and inside perimeters, but I took it upon myself to do it my own way. I just started gluing. It seemed to work. I did the a few on the inside, then worked my way around to the outside, and kept my wreath flat on that blue box to make sure it would also hang flat against the wall. here's where the second bout of OCD came in. I wanted it to look like the ornaments were randomly thrown on there, but my little mind couldn't do it. so I made sure not too many silver/gold/white were by another, and also no shiny/matte/glitter were next to one another.

once I was about ready to give up, I decided to add a poinsetta. it helped me gain back my sanity. with that sanity came the realization that my life would become easier if I glued the ribbon on before the ornaments, so I added ribbon. I doubled up on thin ribbon because I forgot to buy thicker. from here I just kept gluing, gluing, gluing until I reached the end!

bam. take that ornament wreath! I actually think it looks pretty dang awesome.

Let me know if you decide to make one of these babies, I'd love to see your variation! And incase you were wondering what the easier way is, its to hang all the ornaments by their tips on a wire hanger, then form it into a circle. areyoujoking? Oh well, I still like mine :)

What are you crafting this season?

I Made Stuff

Both of these projects are long overdue. I started them in September aka pre move; and didn't make sense to bring out all my packed craft stuff until we got here. So, I know I'm a little late for all the fall decor, but here is what I made this weekend!

Felt Rosette Magnets
These are SO easy to make. I would probably do a terrible job of explaining, so instead I'll let Mrs. Priss do the talking. All I did was glue them onto magnets I purchased at Michaels and now my fridge is adorable! I used a little bigger squares than she did, so my flowers are ginormous. Note to self: less is more.

Fall Yarn Wreath
This I also started in Seattle where our walls were tan. If I could do it over, I'd pick tan yarn this time so it stands out more. (I envisioned the contrast between the cream yarn and tan walls..) My dad actually helped me wrap this wreath, since it takes about 3 hours to do. He couldn't bear to watch me slowly wrap one more time around, so he took the yarn, I held the wreath, and he completed it lickety-split. How very manly, Dad. Anywho, I just wrapped the wreath in yarn, glued some sparkly  leaves and berries (I'm infatuated with glitter), and some felt rosettes, and voila! It's fall time in here :)

Yes, I am still getting giddy over the sun shining. I love California :)

I'd love to see pictures if you decide to try some rosettes or a yarn wreath!

The Art of Doing Nothing

Doing 'nothing': I am way too good at this, and also don't know how to do it all at the same time. I can avoid doing something by doing another something and then it feels like nothing, because I wanted to do that something. For instance, our guest room:

I can't believe I even just posted a picture. Don't judge me, but does that look like something you would want to tackle!? Didn't think so. Haven't touched it since we moved in ... FOUR months ago. But I will, this weekend, because soon my inlaws are coming and they will need a place to sleep! Hopefully I'll be posting an after picture, soon.

Here are a few "somethings" that I have been working on. They just feel like I'm doing nothing, because I enjoy doing them.
Turning this:

Into this:

Closer look at my cute pumpkins:

All I did was glue poutporri sticks to candles and spray paint mini pumpkins!

Making these with my mom:

Here's to the Art of Doing Nothing, and being good at it =) Actually, here's to cleaning that dang guest room. Hmph.
